Over the last 6 years, I have worked/interned with companies of all shapes and sizes. Whether it was the framework of a small, freshly acquired company like Evolv Tan, well-established mid-size companies like Pacific Medical Buildings or IVD Safepath, or top-tier firms like KPMG and Grant Thornton, if there’s one thing I learned it’s that there aren’t enough hours in the day for you to get everything done.
Companies are always growing and expanding. Between acquiring and retaining clients, increasing productivity and maximizing efficiency, the workload can get overwhelming at times. That makes it all the worse when special projects or surprise issues arise, forcing you to put off your more important tasks to work on those which are more urgent.

Employee #1 in on the Ground Floor of a New Business
I wore many hats during my two years working at Evolv Tan. I stepped into an empty office on my first day as the first employee and a few short months later we were a fully functioning company with a Sales Department, Tech Department and a full Warehouse. I had a broad range of responsibilities from purchasing equipment to recruiting staff including taking full responsibility for the financials to ensure timely and accurate bookkeeping and statements. I built an intimate understanding of the relationships between the four main financial statements and the chart of accounts on a day to day basis, utilizing QuickBooks Enterprise as the accounting platform.
In the summer of 2014 I flew to Sydney, Australia to intern with KPMG and Grant Thornton for a month each. During this time I learned to write merger proposals, company valuations and Independent Expert Reports. This gave me the opportunity to work with massive spreadsheets and learn the many intricacies of the Microsoft Office Suite and especially Microsoft Excel. I have a thorough understanding of the many formulas, functions, tables, charts and formatting options excel has to offer.
